I bought a Chanel East West bag in Burgundy and my girlfriend bought a classic Chanel 2.55 caviar bag in black in Heathrow airport early this year. Both bags cost almost the same.

After 5 months, we both decided to sell them. Guess what, it turned out my girlfriend got back almost the same amount of money by selling her caviar Chanel to a second-hand designer shop but I only got back 40% of what I paid for the Chanel East-West Bag from the same shop.
Here are some tips I got from the experts as to how to invest a designer purse if you don’t plan to keep it in the rest of your life.
1, black is always the safe bet. They think burgundy is too old for young customers while mature customers won’t choose burgundy – strange!
2, it is either large bags like Chanel coco cabas or smaller bags like clutches that can sell well in the second-hand designer market.
3, classic style such as Hermes Birkin, Bottega Veneta Limited Edition Cabas, Chanel 2.55, Louis Vuitton Speedy can keep its value better than the latest style. IT bags are the bags that drop value dramatically once they pass their IT period: such as the Dior Gaucho bag.
4, my personal opinion: If you live in a humid place, please avoid buying lambskin bags unless you know how to keep the surrounding air drp! I bought this lambskin Chanel and then went to hot humid Hongkong for a 2 months holiday. When I got back to cold dry England I found MOULD on my lambskin Chanel, which I cannot get rid of!
This serial number tells the style of a bag. 121 means it is a new model from 2008.

Lambskin is very fragile. It gets creases easily.
