Recently I found a major difference between a fake Birkin and an authentic Birkin. This difference has not been noted everywhere yet, so I think it might be worth mention. Check the photos below, can you spot any difference?

The handle end of an authentic Birkin is thinner and more of a square shape. A fake one has a wider and more rounded shape! Now can you tell which one is authentic? Tips: There are four authentic Birkins in this photo!
We know Hermes Birkin bags are made of many different type of leather such as togo, box calf, clemence, epsom, swift, barenia, fjord, chevre, etc. But so far most birkin bags I found on eBay are made of togo leather. Also most replica is made of togo too.
I found a Chevre birkin online today. This chevre is goatskin. It is slightly glossy, but less glossy than box calf. It looks like it is quite fragile, as most goatskin are fragile. It is a lovely Khaki color!
Epsom: it is a replica!!
Epsom is embossed. It looks like a pattern of many lines diagonally across each other. I was told this leather is quite stiff and rigid. It is easy to take care of. No need to use it carefully as you do to a chevre birkin.
Hermes Birkin / Kelly replica purses are very well-made these days. They are very hard to spot. By far most replica Birkin or Kelly are made of so-called togo leather. This leather has grainy look. If you meet a Birkin that is made of box or epsom or swift, then 90% it is a real item.
For the common togo leather birkin on eBay, I bought one last year. Because I have a real small birkin 30cm myself, once I got the fake birkin I felt it straight away. This fake birkin looks perfect - I can say it is 99% similar to the one I have. But this fake togo leather is harder than the real togo leather. It is real leather, but it is not soft togo leather! Well, this cannot be detected from the photos at all.
I found something detectable on the Hermes logo engraved on the front flap. The fake letters line closer than that of the authentic ones.

This is a replica. I think this is a very well-made replica. I know I can only tell if it is fake by feeling the leather. This bag is made of ostrich pattern leather, not real ostrich leather. It might look the same, but it feels differently.

Does the fake look like the authentic? I don’t have that kind of money to own a real croc birkin. But it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out their difference: real croc is one layer of croc skin and real leather with croc pattern is two layer: leather and croc pattern! The real croc bag should be more soft than a leather with croc pattern bag.
A fake is listed at 1/40 of an authentic one’s value. Is it worth the money? You decide it!
